Many people were against it because they believed we were meddling with a civil war and it was not our responsibility and the people did not want our soldiers to be over there. There were many songs that were influenced by the Vietnam War because there were a lot of people who did not want to be drafted to do something they did not want to do. The 60’s were a time of human rights and equality in America, and the attitude of society on the war was portrayed into song.
If the Vietnam War was so controversial, why was the United States involved?
The reason for the war was so to prevent a ‘Domino Effect’ of Vietnam. It was believed that if South Vietnam falls to communism, that all the surrounding countries would also fall and eventually most of the world would be subdued to the government.
The war had a lot of important events from the start. From August 19, 1945, when Vietnam was divided, to in 1961 to when the U.S. buildup in Vietnam, to March 1965 when the first combat troops arrived in Vietnam, to February 1971 when Laos in invaded, to March 29, 1973 when the last of the U.S. combat troops leave the country.
